 Dr. Raymond C. Obieri is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (1974) and Nigeria and also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management. He also holds an honorary doctorate degree in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2003) and he is an alumnus of the International Institute for Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland. He has attended various courses in banking including a 1981 major course in international banking with Midland Bank Plc, London.
He has over 41 years experience of career in banking and finance. He started his banking career with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Marina Branch in 1964. He covered all commercial banking services and rose to the rank of Bills & Credit Manager at Benin Branch in 1974. He joined NAL Merchant Bank Plc in 1976 as Assistant Manager, and rose to the rank of Senior Manger and Head of International Division in 1981, which made him the first Nigerian to head the Foreign Exchange Division of the Bank. In that position, he spearheaded NAL’s establishment of correspondent banking relationships with over 40 international banks. He joined First City Finance Company Limited as a Deputy General Manager in 1984, a position he held before he left to form a finance company, Summit finance. He was one of the key promoters of the then Fidelity Bank Limited and served on its Board before resigning to join three others to float Intercontinental Bank in 1989.
He was the immediate past President of the Council of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Chairman of Summit Finance Company Limited, Chairman of Harmony Trust and Investment Company Limited and Director Intercontinental Capital Markets Limited, Intercontinental Securities Limited and WAPIC Insurance Company Ltd. |
